The house was built in Pont-De-La-Tine near Ormont Dessous in the canton of Vaud, writes Leclanché in a press release. Although the house is mainly powered by solar energy, the main challenge was to find a solution to store the energy produced during the day and deliver power on a 24-hour basis without connecting to the power grid.

To solve this, Leclanché developed and manufactured a turnkey energy storage solution with a performance of 25 kilowatt hours. The integrated solution can store, convert and monitor energy and enables users to take advantage of wind and solar power without compromising comfort, writes Leclanché.

The project is now in the running for the 2016 Swiss Solar Prize. A jury will nominate the candidates in June.
