Butendiek is a milestone. Work on the offshore wind farm near Husum began in March 2014. The turbines started feeding power into the grid in February this year. Since August, all 80 wind turbines have been fully operational, making Butendiek the fastest installed offshore wind farm, according to a news release from ewz, a Zurich electricity company.

Butendiek has a total output of 288 megawatts. ewz receives 4.9 per cent of this, which is equivalent to an annual output of 62 gigawatt hours – enough to supply approximately 23,000 households in Zurich with renewable energy.
