The sustainable sue&til residential development is being built on the former Sulzer site in the Neuhegi district of Winterthur, explains an Implenia news release. The project is the product of a design competition won by a team from weberbrunner architekten AG and Soppelsa Architekten GmbH. Construction is set to begin at the end of 2015.
The development includes apartments and a ground floor dedicated entirely for public use. According to Implenia, it will be the largest wooden construction project ever built in Switzerland. The project is being built in accordance with Minergie standards and meets the objectives of the 2000 Watt Society. It also features a mobile construction materials recycling facility developed by Implenia that refines the excavated material on site and uses it to make concrete.
A total of CHF 162 million has been invested in the project, with Allianz Suisse Immobilien AG purchasing 260 rental units for CHF 135 million. “The project exactly fits our real estate philosophy of creating energy-efficient, forward-looking buildings in attractive locations as part of a sustainable investment strategy,” says Allianz Suisse Immoblien AG CEO Martin Kaleja.
