Landis+Gyr has signed a contract with the four Dutch distribution grid operators Liander, Stedin, DELTA Netwerkbedrijf and Westland Infra to install three million smart meters in the Netherlands between 2016 and 2020, with an option to prolong the project to 2026. With this tender, the four grid operators are complying with a legal obligation to offer a smart meter to every household in the Netherlands before 2021, explains a Landis+Gyr news release.

The meters will be equipped with a communications port that allows it to communicate into the home, enabling consumers to visualise their energy consumption on an in-home display. Alternatively, consumers can connect it to a Home Energy Management Systems (HEMS), thus allowing them to control their energy consumption.

Landis+Gyr already supplied the majority of the smart meters in the pre-rollout in the Netherlands and calls the new contracts “a confirmation of the trust and confidence in our company.”
