The industrial site in Deitingen in the canton of Solothurn, which until last year was used by power and automation group ABB to manufacture turbochargers, will see new life breathed into it. Swiss solar panel manufacturer Megasol Energie AG is moving into the 20,000-square-metre property with its six production halls and four-storey office building, according to a news release. Megasol intends to move its current facilities in Wangen an der Aare, Langenthal, Wiedlisbach and Zuchwil to this one site. The move is scheduled to take place in the coming weeks.

Markus Gisler, founder and CEO of Megasol, also plans to establish a business incubator on the site and Cleantech Business Park AG for this purpose. One of its objectives is to draw other companies to Deitingen. “With the Cleantech Businesspark we want to offer the best possible conditions for start-ups and growth-oriented companies,” says Gisler. The businesspark will offer attractive rents and the opportunity to network. Its goal is to become an innovation park for applied future-oriented technologies, including building-integrated energy production, intelligent grids, storage systems and sustainable transport. The site itself will be expanded into a solar power plant.

Megasol hopes to create, directly and indirectly, 200 jobs on the industrial site over the next five years. The municipality of Deitingen and the regional economic development group Innostep are delighted with Megasol’s upcoming move as it offers great opportunities for the entire Solothurn economic region.
