Companies are currently not well informed enough about the risks and opportunities as regards water management, according to a South Pole Group news release. For this reason, Zurich-based South Pole Group is partnering with London-based CDP to carry out the world’s first global assessment of corporate efforts to tackle water security of 700 of the world’s largest companies.

Since 2009, CDP has been actively requesting water management data on behalf of a large number of institutional investors. The data covers self-reported corporate water risk assessments, water risk exposure and mitigation activities. Together, South Pole Group and CDP will evaluate the water management practices of companies operating in 112 countries across the most water dependent industry sectors. As South Pole Group writes, the main objective of the evaluations is to enable companies to better manage their water resources and reduce their impacts.
