Germany’s largest construction research project C3 – which stands for Carbon Concrete Composite – won this year’s German Sustainability Award in the research category, writes Implenia in a news release. The C3 project aims to develop a construction method that will reduce material by 50 per cent and replace around 20 per cent of reinforced concrete with carbon concrete over the next decade. More than 130 partners from research and business are involved in this major project, including Implenia, which is involved with its materials engineering and maintenance unit. The project was also honoured with the German Raw Material Efficiency Award 2015. Both awards are initited by federal ministries.

The Research Association for Underground Transportation Facilities (STUVA) honoured the Wehrhahn Line Düsseldorf construction project. Implenia was generator contractor for the expanded structural work. The project was honoured for its achievements and innovations in underground construction. In addition to its numerous technical innovations, the jury singled out the project for its highly complex construction work “that was completed without major incidents.” As general contractor, Implenia played a major role in the STUVA win.
