Eleven teams from nine countries are driving around the world as part of the 80edays rally. Among them are two Swiss teams. In a Tesla Roadstar, Markus Doessegger and Matthias Aebi – of Zurich and Winterthur respectively – make up Team Switzerland I. The second team comprises Beat Müller and Rudi Zbinden of Bern, who are driving a Tesla Model S P85D.

The teams successfully completed the stage in North America in mid-July, according to a statement about the event. They then flew to Guangzhou in China, where they are now completing the Asian route. Afterwards, it will be back to Europe, where the rally is due to end on 4th September.

One stage, which will take place on 28th August, will see the participants travel through Switzerland. There will be the opportunity to view the electric vehicles in the Umweltarena Spreitenbach. Switzerland is also involved in the project via the Zurich-based myclimate foundation, which is helping the teams offset the ecological footprint of their air freight transport. In addition, myclimate is working with 80edays on a reforestation project.
