UN general secretary Ban Ki-moon and Betrand Piccard, co-founder and co-pilot of the solar-powered aircraft Solar Impluse, honoured the projects at a festive event during the second week of the UN climate talks in Paris, writes myclimate in a news release.

Both myclimate projects address climate protection in East Africa. The first one, Solar Energy for Education and Telephony, installs smart Solar Home Systems for low-income households and small businesses in Tanzania. By providing them with an affordable alternative to fossil fuels, the climate protection programme effectively reduces CO2 emissions, explains myclimate. The second project also reduces CO2 emissions by replacing fossil fuels: Clean Drinking Water for School and Households in Uganda distributes water purification technologies to replace systems that use fossil fuels.

“Receiving two awards at once here in Paris for our wonderful projects is a great honour for myclimate and a strong incentive for our cooperation activities with our project partners! Both projects show concrete local potential for a cleaner future and can be multiplied on a large scale,” says myclimate managing director René Estermann.
