A total of 1,600 youth travelled to the event, according to EnergieSchweiz, and looked back on their climate and environmental activism of the past year. “Many pioneering achievements like the flight to the moon have already been achieved. But plenty of challenges still await you, such as eradicating poverty, environmental protection and sustainable development. You’re on a great path and I wish you the best of luck,” said Piccard.

The students installed a globe on the stage that displayed the recent flight of Solar Impulse using mirrors. Along with myclimate, EnergieSchweiz and Swisscom, Solar Impulse is one of the initiators of Energy and Climate Pioneers. Since 2010 more than 15,000 students have implemented some 630 projects that help protect the climate and promote energy efficiency.
