Together with the non-governmental organisation Madremonte and the Medellin Botanical Gardens, South Pole Group organised a delivery of 100 endangered Magnolia trees to the east of Antioquia Department in Colombia. South Pole Group, the leading global carbon footprinting provider from Zurich, announced that the trees were planted in private conservation areas.

Magnolia trees are under threat of extinction in Colombia due to deforestation, according to a news release. Madremonte has been especially active in ensuring that privately owned land put voluntarily under protection become part of nature reserve areas where Magnolia trees can be planted. The east of the Antioquia Department includes a couple of 100 hectares or protected land area.

The ultimate goal of the joint project is to have as many native Magnolia tree populations within their natural habitat as possible to reduce the risk of extinction.
